HOLA!

We are Nathalie and Gabriel!

We are two travellers from Sydney, Australia who met serendipitously on the other side of the world in Lima, Peru on the beginning of what we didn’t know would be a life changing trip for us both.

We met within the first day of our travels and spent the next 3 months together through an exotic South American summer, and an especially frosty Eastern European winter.

Since the day that we met nearly five years ago, we have gone from travelling Sydneysiders, to fully fledged global nomads, living and laughing together in every possible place – and between us we have already journeyed to over 50 incredible countries!

With this open path ahead of us, anything is possible, in any order! So we’re following all of the adventures that feel right to us, as the opportunities present themselves. Travelling the world. Exploring and enjoying everything we find.

We hope that by keeping all of our photos and adventures in one place, we can inspire you (yes, you!) to say yes to the unknown, and always choose the road less travelled.

IT GEEK / CHATTERBOX / FOODIE / CAMERAMAN / DOG MAGNET / EXPLORER OF BOTH LAND & SEA

Gabriel is a self-confessed computer geek, who loves nothing more than soaking in any fact he can learn. Somehow Gab doesn’t just know a little about a lot, he just knows a lot about a lot.

On paper, he’s worked in Forensic IT, tech support and web design. Though in real life, he is the epitome of a people person, talking to everyone and anyone who cares to share their story or learn some fun facts.

Gab has an incredibly kind-heart and can make anyone feel at ease with just a few words or his famous smile. This gives him a supersonic dog-magnetism which has initiated the beginning of many street dog friendships.

To add to the mix, he loves food in any of its forms and cooking is one thing which brings him (and his recipients) absolute pleasure. Not only is he adventurous outside of the kitchen, he brings this fun and out of the ordinary approach to his cooking – which makes every meal time extraordinary and deeeeelicious.

His taste for detail doesn’t end in the kitchen; he captures moments in time on camera, in a composition imperceptible to the naked eye. His shots are real, raw and incredibly beautiful.

Gab won’t say no to anything and will try anything at least once – he will dive, jump, hike, swim, eat what ever lands in his path. He is passionate about life and exploring every single nook and cranny the planet has to offer.

NOMAD / SPECIAL NEEDS TEACHER / STUDENT OF THE WORLD / ANIMAL LOVER / VEGETARIAN / DREAMER

Nathalie is a jade-eyed, wide-awake dreamer – caught somewhere in the middle of sure footed reality and the whimsical make believe.

Her thirst for understanding the world has been the root of her nomadic tendencies since her first solo travels at the ripe age of 17. Nowhere is too far, and no adventure too small. She is always longing to learn, to see, to taste the wonders which fill the world – and has nothing short of a million and one ideas to achieve it all.

Working with NGOs and teaching kids with learning difficulties – Nat is deeply passionate about making a positive impact on the beautiful people which we meet along our journey across the globe.

With the warmest of hearts, and the gentlest of souls, she aims to raise smiles in all – young and old, across all cultures, and even in those with wet noses and the fluffiest of fur.

Being a true lover of vege food, she has a real knack for finding fresh, healthy and ethical food anywhere around the globe. In fact it is one of her greatest skills on the road – so she definitely knows some great spots to stop by for a quick snack, or a hearty organic meal!

Just like me, she loves nothing more than to adventure – on the road, in the air, over the mountains and under the stars. If you ever need her, you’ll usually be able to find her in the last place you look.

Latest musings …

Belize absolutely lives up to its reputation as a tiny albeit incredible tropical paradise. Without any expectations, we found our way here crossing between the north-east of Guatemala to the turquoise waters of Mexico's Yucatan peninsular and were captivated by the melting pot of Creole, Mayan and remnants of colonial British culture....

Croatia – coastline of heaven and land of kings. Tourism in Croatia has really kicked up a notch over the last few years and there are no surprises why. This Balkan gem’s perfect mix of Mediterranean climate, jaw-droppingly beautiful 526km cliff coastline and foodie-heaven status, has catapulted it into one of the most in demand destinations in Europe....

Ahhh, Cuba!! Each and every time somebody asks what our favourite country we've travelled to, "CUBA!" gets blurted out without any hesitation - by both of us. It really is one of our FAVOURITE destinations. ...

Over the past few years, a big part of our travels has been volunteering – it gives us the opportunity to learn, to grow, to give back and to take it all in too. We’ve been fortunate enough to work with Indigenous Mayan children in Guatemala, with local, rural children in a village in India and on numerous sustainable farms. Work exchange programs like WorkAway, WWOOF and HelpX, are all incredible opportunities not just to have deeper travel experiences, but especially to have deeper life experiences. We come out of each one with new skills, friends and a sense of pride. Volunteering definitely isn’t as daunting as it might sound – set up a profile online, search through the amazing opportunities out there and when you connect with one, GO FOR IT!  ...

Since we met we both really knew that there was a way much better than how we had previously been living. Working fulltime 9-5 jobs in the city, spending another couple of hours commuting each day and feeling like zombies by the time we got home, cooking a boring weeknight dinner and zapping out our brains by watching rubbish on TV. It is an all too familiar story. Fast forward a few years and we have time in our days to do whatever our hearts desire – study, volunteer, yoga, hike, and even write this blog!...

It really would take an entire lifetime just to visit let alone get to know each of Indonesia's beautiful and culturally diverse islands. From its most famous Bali to populated Java, to nature's sanctuary Borneo to distant and wonderful Flores - travelling Indonesia's archipelago really felt like entering a new and exotic country with each island hop....

Heading to Israel, all we knew was that: 1. The food was going to be ridiculous good (let’s be honest, this was probably one of the biggest factors in our final decision to go!), 2. the history and culture would be incredibly deep and complex, and 3. that we had no idea at all what to expect. This was all true....

Introducing Daisy – our travelling home, who is taking us all over Europe! In such a small space, we have everything that we need to travel, live, love, cook, relax, and enjoy....

One part of travel, and the reason which it is such a fulfilling and wholesome endeavour for many, is the incredible lessons which we open ourselves to learning - through the wonderful, to the powerful, to the unconventional; to the just plain uncomfortable. It is vital to be ready and open to face these challenges and learn about yourself endlessly, in the ways in which you deal with them. Leaving home/ backpacking/ moving overseas, whatever the framework of 'being away' - packing it all up and riding the wave of freedom has as many downs as it does ups. That is okay though. That is one of the lessons. To be able to accept the good, the bad and the ugly all at the same time, helps us to approach our lives with the same courage and tenacity, however they unfold down the track....
